35 classes; 745 children: How YOU Can Help

The 2012 holiday season coincides with Books for Keeps' biggest challenge yet: to complete the inventory for our May program by December 31st. We have the books we need for 3 of our 5 schools, but lack the books for 40 classes in the last 2 schools - a total of 845 children from low-income families.

The books we provide are so precious to the children we serve, and are often the only books they own. These books not only bring joy to a child, they prevent summer slide and exponentially increase that child's chances of educational - and future - success. You can help, and it's easier than you think.

Sponsor a Child
$25 provides 12 books for 1 child (a full summer of reading!), plus a tote bag to carry the books. Make it a gift and we'll email you a certificate you can wrap and put under the tree.

Sponsor a Class and Send Us Your Story
Whether it's your business, your book club, a church group or tennis team - sponsor a class, send us some pictures, and we'll tell your story on our blog. $480 will provide 12 books per child to an entire class of students, and your story will inspire others.

Holiday Gifts
Make a donation of any amount in someone's name for the holidays, and we'll email you a gift certificate you can print and present as your gift.

Memorial Gifts
Make a donation of any amount in memory of a loved one, and we'll send a letter to the family or recipient of your choosing. Or, sponsor a class in your loved one's memory, and we'll share your memorial on our blog, complete with pictures.

The Wimpy Kid Fund
We have an amazing opportunity to buy our #1 student-requested book for just $3.05 per copy. Released in November each year, the newest Wimpy Kid title is, without fail, our #1 requested book each May. Your $3.05 donation will bring a huge smile to a child's face!

Here's how to help:

Make a tax deductible donation via Paypal or by mailing a check to Books for Keeps, PO Box 49761, Athens, GA 30607.

1. For class sponsorships:
If members of your group are donating individually, instruct them to include a memo with the name of your group so we can tally the donations. Then email your story and pictures to Melaney at givethembooks@gmail.com.

2. For gift donations:
Include your name, the recipient's name, and your email address with your donation. We'll email you a printable certificate.

3. For memorial donations:
Include your name, the name of the person you're honoring, and the name and address for the recipient of the memorial letter.

4. For Wimpy Kid donations:
Mention "Wimpy Kid" in the memo section and we'll purchase 1 copy of the newest title for every $3.05 donated.

New to Books for Keeps, and wondering what all the fuss is about?
We are a 100% volunteer, 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to leveling the playing field where access to books is concerned.  Our Stop Summer Slide! program is research-based and provides 12 books each May to every child attending an Athens elementary school where 90% or more of students qualify for free/reduced-price lunches.
